Biodiversity

As David Attenborough says, if we want to protect our future we must first protect the future of our natural world. Through actions such as citizen science, wildlife gardening, school projects, a conservation group and community planting we aim to learn about, protect and nurture biodiversity in our parish. Below are some of the wildlife activities going on in Langford Budville. If you're interested, please do explore or join up with any of these.

Activities

Parish Biodiversity Audit

As part of the Climate Emergency Community Fund funding from Somerset County Council, local expertise and professional services are combining to create a baseline biodiversity audit of the parish. This will help us make better choices about future actions, from land developments to conservation work.

Conservation Group

Join the parish's new conservation group. Working as much as possible with hand tools, we plan to support with the management of the wonderful Somerset Wildlife Trust reserve in the parish, as well as in and around the settlements and footpaths.

Wildlife Group & Nature Map

This is a real citizen science project! Using smartphones, parishioners and school children are photographing and recording the parish's wildlife to create a map of the parish's biodiversity.

Plant Group

Take part in a year-long wildflower treasure hunt! The plant group are using WhatsApp to share photos and locations of local wild plants as they come into flower. All are welcome to share this fascinating seasonal process as it unfolds.

The Triangle Forest Garden

This exciting project, within the wildlife area adjoining the village playing field, aims to actively manage the space so that as many bird & insect friendly and edible species as possible thrive here. Using forest garden techniques, over time this will become an even more rich, bio-diverse, and inspiring haven of nature!

The Triangle Mini-Meadow

This project aims to develop the clear area around the picnic tables on the Triangle into a small wildflower meadow, by introducing local species either as seeds or plants. The emphasis will be on those that support pollinators or provide food for wildlife. One day it might be good to look at as well.
