The aim of the project is to provide a welcoming, attractive, educational area of native wildflowers and grasses, sourced locally wherever possible.
The maintenance should become less intensive than at present, with minimal mowing - possible by volunteers. This would involve a late September cut, with removal of all cut material, and some removal of invasive brambles and nettles.
Maximum volunteer effort is needed in the first year, an advantage in that volunteer commitment is more attractive for a limited period!
The local species introduced via seed and plant propagation, will be obtained in a way which could not affect local populations, and NEVER from designated Nature Reserves. In the first year some introduced species will be used, eg Poppies, to give some colour.
Parish involvement will be as wide as possible. We hope to involve the village school. Already the Conservation Group, the Sustainable Gardening Group and the Parish Council have literally rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty to promote the scheme.
Many volunteer opportunities remain, needing a range of skills and abilities - you don't have to get your hands dirty!
