The rarest plant in Langford Budville parish?

Langford Heathfield is one of the few remaining sites in Somerset, ( or possibly the only site), for this beauty. The Pale Dog Violet flowers at the end of May or early June.
Gosh, that is beautiful. I think that common dog violets might be flowering now, late March. Why the difference? Do they grow in very different conditions?
